Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 15, 2026

Your trust matters to us. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

Berrien Connection is a charitable and educational nonprofit based at 100 West Main Street, Benton Harbor, Michigan 49022. This policy covers berrienconnection.com and the forms on it. When we say “we” or “us,” we mean Berrien Connection.

2. Information we collect

We only collect what you choose to share with us, plus basic website data.

  • Contact and appointment forms: your name, email, phone number (optional), the topic you need help with, and anything you write in the message box.
  • Newsletter signup: your email address.
  • Next Level Berrien interest list: your name, email, age group, and the games you play.
  • Event RSVPs: your name, email, and the event you plan to attend.
  • Website data: pages visited, browser type, device type, and general location (city level), collected through cookies and analytics.

Please do not send Social Security numbers, bank details, or medical records through our website forms. If your navigator needs a document, they will tell you a safe way to share it.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Reply to your message or schedule your Community Navigator appointment
  • Connect you with programs and resources you ask about
  • Send event updates and newsletters you signed up for
  • Process and thank you for donations
  • Understand how people use our website so we can improve it
  • Meet legal and reporting requirements for nonprofits

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

4. When we share information

We share information only when needed to help you or run our programs:

  • With your permission: for example, when your navigator connects you with a partner agency such as a housing or employment program, we will ask you first.
  • Service providers: companies that host our website, send our emails, or process forms and donations. They may only use your information to provide that service.
  • Program partners: if you apply to ACCESS FOR ALL, your application goes directly to the Michigan Workforce Development Institute and is covered by their privacy policy.
  • When required by law: to comply with a valid legal request or to protect someone’s safety.

5. Donations

Online donations are processed by Givebutter. Berrien Connection does not see or store your full card or bank details. We receive your name, email, gift amount, and any note you leave, so we can send a receipt and say thank you. Givebutter’s own privacy policy also applies.

6. Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They help the site work, remember your choices, and show us how people use our pages. Essential cookies are always on. Analytics cookies are only set if you choose to allow them.

How we use analytics.

We use Google Analytics to see which pages are visited, how people find our site, and which devices they use. This helps us improve the site and show our funders how many residents we reach. We do not use analytics to identify you by name, and we do not use advertising cookies.

Third-party content.

Some pages include Google Maps (Contact page), YouTube videos (Homepage and Skilled Trades), and Givebutter (donations). These services may set their own cookies. Where possible, we load them only after you click on them or accept cookies.

Your cookie choices.

You can accept or decline analytics cookies in the banner when you first visit. To change your choice later, use the Cookie Settings link in our website footer. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as expected.

7. Emails from us

If you subscribe, we send program news, event dates, and volunteer calls, about one email a month. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed. We will still reply to messages you send us after you unsubscribe.

8. How we protect your information

We use secure (HTTPS) connections on our website, limit access to the staff and volunteers who need it, and work with service providers that protect data. No website is completely secure, so please contact us right away if you think your information has been misused.

9. How long we keep information

We keep your information only as long as we need it to help you, run our programs, or meet legal and accounting rules. Donation records are kept as required for nonprofit tax reporting. Other records are deleted or made anonymous after 1 Year, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

10. Your choices

You can ask us to:

  • See the personal information we have about you
  • Correct information that is wrong
  • Delete your information, unless we must keep it by law
  • Stop sending you emails

Email [email protected] or call (269) XXX-XXXX. We will respond within 30 days.

11. Children's privacy

Our website is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. For Next Level Berrien and other youth programs, a parent or guardian completes any signup for players under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Links to other websites

Our site links to other organizations, such as mi.gov/vote, the Michigan Workforce Development Institute, Givebutter, and local resource partners. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please review their policies when you visit.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our programs and website change. The effective date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will be noted on our website.
